Accounting Manager / Controller $100k-$125k
This is a key accounting leadership position responsible for overseeing financial operations while remaining hands-on with day-to-day accounting activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, excellent knowledge of GAAP, WIP reporting, job costing, certified payroll, and financial reporting. Experience with construction accounting software is required. The role requires someone who is organized, dependable, and comfortable working directly with ownership, employees, CPAs, banks, bonding companies, insurance providers, and outside agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and HR.
- Prepare monthly customer billings and manage collections on outstanding accounts.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage WIP reporting, job costing, and project financial reporting.
- Maintain the general ledger, perform account reconciliations, and balance accounts monthly.
- Coordinate year-end close, tax preparation, and financial reporting with external CPAs.
- Oversee certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance.
- Manage banking relationships, bonding requirements, insurance matters, claims management, and annual renewals.
- Administer 401(k) reporting and annual compliance requirements.
- Manage contractor registrations, certifications, renewals, and prequalification documentation.
- Ensure strong internal controls and GAAP compliance.
- Provide financial reporting and analysis to ownership.
- Support and oversee accounting and administrative staff as needed.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong construction accounting experience required.
- Experience within the construction industry strongly preferred.
- Experience with construction accounting software required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with WIP reporting, job costing, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word skills.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
